The Township of Georgian Bluffs is taking applications to fill a vacant council seat.
The opening comes after Ryan Thompson resigned from is seat on Sept. 5, following his appointment as the township’s new CAO. His seat was declared vacant on Sept. 10.
During a special meeting on Sept. 17, council approved calling for applications to fill the seat by appointment over holding a by-election.
The township says this was chosen to reduce costs and allow for a timely appointment before the 2026 municipal election.
Those interested in applying for the seat must be at least 18-years-old, be a Canadian citizen, live in Georgian Bluffs or own or rent a property in the township, and not be prohibited from voting or holding office under the law.
After the application window closes on Oct. 9, township staff will compile the list of qualified applicants for council to review.
The applications will be considered during a council meeting on Oct. 15 before the final appointment, which is expected to be made at a special meeting on Nov. 5.
The successful applicant will serve the remainder of the term of council, which ends on Nov. 14, 2026.
