The Tara Curling Club has upgraded it’s ice making equipment ahead of the upcoming season this fall.
Club President Dave Bryson says they purchased and installed a new ice plant over the summer with assistance from a $200,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant.
“We are fortunate, they approved a grant to us in 2024 for the replacement and upgrade of our ice plant,” says Bryson.
He says the new equipment is more environmentally friendly compared to the previous model being more ammonia based.
“The official change over was this summer. So once we finished the curling season, we started taking the old plant out and the new one is in place ready to go now,” says Bryson.
He adds the OTF Grant was a big relief for club members as they sought to replace their aging ice plant.
“We were having many discussions about how how are we going to be able to finance such an expensive piece of equipment. We were looking at options of used equipment, we were looking at options of new equipment, we were trying to figure out how to raise enough money within our club or fundraising events,” says Bryson. “I don’t know we could have replaced it without the grant. The grant was a lifeline to our curling club, to the future of our curling club.”
