An organization aimed at getting women interested in running for municipal office will be holding meetings this month in Owen Sound.
ElectHER Now is hosting an in-person Run Where You Are event on September 18th at the Rumpus Room, at 237 9th Street East.
That will be followed by an online learning session on Tuesday, September 23rd.
ElectHER Now co-founder Laura Wood says that by encouraging more people to step forward for local elections, they can help build councils that better reflect the diversity of a community.
The organization will join local leaders who will share their experiences and highlight resources available to future candidates and campaign volunteers.
In a media release, electHER Now says that 37% of Ontario municipalities are led by women or are gender-diverse. In Bruce and Grey counties, only 29% of elected municipal positions are held by women.
Participants will receive the session link upon registering here.
