A new hospice is in the works and West Grey council will be asked to support it.
Council will be receiving a delegation Tuesday from Saugeen Hospice, which aims to construct a new six-bed facility on donated land from Brockton northeast of Walkerton.
Saugeen Hospice is a not-for-profit community corporation with the goal of building a hospice which would serve South Bruce, Brockton, southern Arran-Elderslie, Hanover, West Grey, Minto, and surrounding areas.
A funding campaign is already underway which aims to raise $10 million. To date, the campaign has raised $7 million from donations and pledges.
The final cost estimate, however, will be finalized before the start of construction.
Saugeen Hospice received $1.5 million from the province last year to get project off the ground.
The new hospice anticipates welcoming its first resident in winter 2028.
The corporation will be asking for West Grey to consider supporting the facility during its meeting on Tuesday.
