South Bruce OPP says a cryptocurrency scam has cost a Kincardine resident nearly $100,000.
Police say on Aug 26, officers responded to an address in the municipality where the victim reported the scam.
An investigation revealed over the past few months, the victim made a number of transactions through a cryptocurrency trading website equalling about $95,000.
Police say the victim spoke with a person on a number of occasions to facilitate the transactions, who requested more money be sent each time.
When the victim tried to withdraw the funds, it was unable to do so and contacted police.
The South Bruce OPP Crime Unit has taken the lead on the investigation.
“We urge residents to be cautious when engaging in digital currency transactions and investments,” says South Bruce OPP in a release.
