The 37th Annual Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular is off and running.
Event Co-Chair Chris Geberdt says he’s happy to see the event get underway for another year, after a few busy days leading up to the start of the event, but says that it’s all worth while.
“Nothing’s better than today,” Geberdt said in an interview with Bayshore News on Friday. “It’s been a stressful two days of getting everything together and running, but the fish are coming in, people are here enjoying the music, the fish pond’s going… Everything is great.”
A highlight heading into this year’s event was when more than 100 volunteers were on hand to set up the big tent — which is a new tent that is bigger than before.
With an action-packed first weekend planned, it’s all hands on deck for the volunteers.
Saturday will have a fish fry from 4-8 pm, as well as live entertainment.
Sunday will have activities for the kids
“We have Kids’ Day kicking off on Sunday, and that’s amazing,” says Geberdt. “Everything outside the tent is free for the kids. If it’s raining, then you come inside the tent.”
The 10-day fishing event until Aug. 31.
