The Owen Sound hospital has a new CT Scanner up and running.
Brightshores Health System President and CEO Ann Ford says the new machine began service last week.
“It actually is an upgrade from our previous CT Scanner. The previous piece of machinery was almost 10 years old,” says Ford. “We are gradually ramping up, but we are close to 100 per cent being operational with this new machine.”
She says the CT Scanner will assist the Owen Sound hospital, which operates as the district stroke centre for the region and its cancer programs.
“The CT supports all of those programs, along with our inpatient and outpatient care for things such as internal injuries, infections and other things. We do actually more than 16,000 CT procedures annually at Brightshores and the majority of those are at our Owen Sound site,” says Ford.
The new scanner provides radiologists at the hospital with improved image quality as well as decreases the amount of radiation exposure for patients.
She says the old CT Scanner was removed from the hospital to be decommissioned.
Ford thanked everyone who helped bring the new CT Scanner to the hospital after about two years of planning.
“All of our facility foundations and municipal donors have provided their support for this machine, so huge shout out to them for really supporting this,” says Ford.
