The Owen Sound North Stars Creative Playgrounds JEWL women’s lacrosse team wrapped up round robin play with a hard-fought 13–11 loss to the Oakville Lady Hawks in their final provincial playdown game.
Coming off back-to-back upset victories over the K-W Kodiaks and Kawartha, Owen Sound stumbled early against a lower-seeded but tenacious Oakville squad. The Lady Hawks came out firing, netting three goals in the first five minutes and holding a 4–2 lead after the opening quarter.
The second quarter echoed the first as Oakville struck with three unanswered goals and extended their lead to 8–3 by halftime. After conceding another goal to start the third, Owen Sound rallied with four straight markers to narrow the deficit to 9–7. Oakville responded with two late goals, maintaining a four-goal cushion heading into the final frame.
The North Stars kept pressing and added four more goals in the fourth, but Oakville bookended the quarter with two crucial tallies that sealed the win.
Brooklyn Doyle led the Owen Sound attack with four goals and continues to lead all playoff scorers with 20 points in three games. Edyn Beyer recorded a hat trick, while Camryn Stauffer, London Doyle, Madison Playter, and Bree Wilkins each added singles.
Despite the loss, Owen Sound clinched first place in their pool and advanced to the championship round of the provincial tournament, set for July 11–12 in Peterborough. The North Stars will face the Halton Hills Bulldogs on Friday night, with the winner advancing to Saturday’s gold medal game.
