Heavy snow is expected to fall in Bruce and Grey counties today, and strong winds will create blizzard conditions.
Environment Canada says 40 to 80 centimetres of snow will hit the ground through Friday, and the worst blizzard conditions are anticipated this morning.
“Lake effect snow squalls off Lake Huron have developed in the wake of a strong cold front. Strong westerly winds gusting up to 80 km/h this morning will result in widespread blowing snow with near zero visibility. Winds should ease somewhat this afternoon, although heavy snowfall will continue into Friday,” Environment Canada says in its warning. “Travel is expected to be difficult to nearly impossible.”
Forecasters say some areas could see even more than 80 centimetres of snow, if a strong snow squall band happens to linger over the same area.
Blizzard warnings are in place for Owen Sound-Blue Mountains-Northern Grey County, Hanover-Dundalk-Southern Grey County and Saugeen Shores-Kincardine-Southern Bruce County. The Peninsula is under a snow squall warning.
