Goderich Town Council has turned down the option to change their meeting times.
Councillor John Thompson made the motion to reject the proposed new schedule, which would change meeting from Mondays at 4pm to Tuesdays at 9am.
Other councillors agreed that changing the meetings to a weekday morning wouldn’t work for members of the council who have full-time employment.
During their discussion, it was mentioned that 4pm on a Monday is still during the workday, but as Mayor Trevor Bazinet replied, before he was elected to his first term of council, he discussed his employer that if he was elected, he would need to leave work to attend meetings, to which his employer at the time agreed.
Bazinet did mention that if meetings were rescheduled to later on a chosen day, it wouldn’t be fair to some members of town staff, as some may have to start a their regular workday as early as 7 am, and then have to come to council meetings when the need arose.
