Grey Bruce OPP recently cracked down on parents who weren’t buckling their kids into their car seats properly.
OPP say on August 4th, they were patrolling Main Street and Lakeshore Boulevard in Sauble Beach watching for drivers and passengers who were not wearing seat belts.
They say at that afternoon, an officer noticed a vehicle stop at a stop sign, and a toddler standing up between the driver and front passenger seats. According to OPP, toddler had their arms holding the head rests of the driver and front passenger seats.
The driver reportedly told the officer the child was excited to see the beach. A 41-year-old from Mississauga was ticketed.
About half an hour later, the officer saw two passengers in the back of a vehicle without seatbelts on.
When speaking to the passengers, OPP say the officer saw a 10-month-old in a child safety seat without any restraints to hold them into the car seat.
Police say the driver told them the baby cries when they are wearing the car seat harness. A 41-year-old of Saskatoon was ticketed.
OPP say, “As a driver, wearing your seatbelt and ensuring all vehicles occupants are buckled up gives you, your family and other passengers your best chance of surviving a collision and reducing injuries.”
They add, drivers are responsible for ensuring children are secured in the proper seatbelt or child car seat when traveling in a vehicle.
