A fundraising bike ride and run from Newmarket to Owen Sound is set to go this weekend.
Joel Wright’s 100 Miles, 100 Smiles fundraiser will begin with a 60 kilometre bike ride on Saturday Aug. 3 from Newmarket to Shelburne, before he leaves his bike and runs 100 kilometres to Owen Sound.
“About a year and a half, two years ago, I was really looking for something to challenge myself and do something big to get back in shape after my sports career was done. I was thinking of an idea and what came to mind was back a bunch of years ago, my dad and uncle attempted a bike ride from Newmarket to Owen Sound and they came up short,” says Wright.
He says while the previous ride ended in Markdale, it became his goal to finish what his family started.
“I decided to do it for a cause, so I decided I was going to do this for both the Canadian Mental Health Association as well as the Make a Wish Foundation,” says Wright.
The ride will kickoff Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and wrap up Sunday around 10 a.m.
