The Wiarton Lavender Festival is taking place this weekend.
What’s being called a first annual event is happening on Saturday and Sunday, from 9-3 each day.
Bluewater Lavender Farm Co-Director Christine Arezzi says that they’ve received a lot of support to make this event happen.
“It’s been great. I was really pleased. I’ve had a lot of people reaching out looking to be a part of it. I have to say that Wiarton is a great community,” she says. “Very, very strong support for small local business here, and the whole neighbourhood.”
It’s free to attend and visitors can partake in lavender-based culinary creations, bath products, home products, and even lavender cotton candy.
In addition to local businesses and vendors taking part, there are also others travelling in from outside the community to take part.
Bluewater Park will have live music, a vendor market, waterfront yoga, and a celebration of all things lavender.
Arezzi says that at Bluewater Lavender Farm, they chose the flower as their crop of choice because of the benefits and diverse uses of the flower.
From skin care products to aromatherapy – lavender is known for its calming effect – she says that it was an easy choice.
“[There are] great attributes of lavender, but [it’s] also a very environmentally friendly crop. It requires very minimal water,” she says. “[And] We don’t use any chemicals or pesticides on our plants.”
The farm is hosting waterfront yoga at 10:30, and costs $10 per person to participate.
Josh Ritchie will also be performing live music.
Bluewater Park is at 400 Williams Street in Wiarton.
