Meaford is looking into traffic calming measures for Bayfield Street.
Council approved a motion from Deputy Mayor Shirley Keaveney to have staff bring back a report for recommendations on traffic control measures during a meeting on July 8.
Keaveney’s motion says as Bayfield Street is experiencing increasing levels of vehicular traffic, pedestrians and cyclists, especially during the warmer months, there is growing concern regarding the speed of vehicles travelling on Bayfield Street.
The area is home to the local splash pad, Fred Raper’s Park and the Little Beach, which Keaveney’s motion says attracts fishermen, walkers, families, children, and leashed pets.
One of the traffic calming measures the municipality will look into is reducing the speed limit on the road to 40 kilometres and hour and installing more signage.
A follow up report with recommendations will come back by the end of the year.
