The Municipality of Kincardine is recognizing and celebrating both National Indigenous History Month, and Pride Month.
The municipality unveiled two murals to start the month of June on the garage doors of the Welcome Centre.
One is decorated by Ojibway artist Jeffrey (Red) George (Ma-Mi-No-ga-boo). The art is called the Seven Generations Mural and was named in honour of Seven Generations teachings.
The image is a single feather with a bird of prey and uses shades of orange, red, and black. At the bottom is the Municipality of Kincardine’s Land Acknowledgment statement.
The second door is painted to showcase the Progressive Pride Flag by Daniel Quasar.
The purpose of the pride flag the rainbow portion is to represent hope, while the additional five colours represent marginalized communities, as well as Trans Pride.
Kincardine will also be celebrating Pride Month by raising the flag at three locations in the municipality on June 14th. The Pride Flag will be raised at the Kincardine Branch of the Bruce County Public Library at 10 a.m., followed by the Davidson Centre track at 10:30, and the Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services Station 11 in Tiverton at 11 a.m.
