The Addams Family is coming to the Roxy stage with a new youth production.
Roxy Young Company Coordinator Lacey Mooney says The Addams Family – Young@Part: A Spooktacular Youth Production will be hitting the stage next week as a group of actors ranging from 11 to 18 bring the dark comedy to Owen Sound.
“This specific story is about Wednesday, many people will know that character, and Wednesday falls in love. It’s a little bit about her family trying to decipher what to do because this is so different, Wednesday is acting weird, and then also Wednesday’s boyfriend and family come to visit. We get to see the normal family meeting the Addams family. It’s very funny,” says Mooney.
The production is a shortened, one-hour version of the Broadway show, and is directed by Grace McRae, who also directed the Roxy Young Company’s production of Willy Wonka Jr. last year.
“She came to me and wanted to direct a production for the the Roxy Young Company and we got looking at something, we wanted something different. In the past we have done upbeat, more kind of Disney musicals and we wanted something a little different. She came across The Addams Family and thought it was perfect,” says Mooney.
She says the young cast has been great to work with and is impressed by the talent.
“I think people will be blown away by the talent, the vocal talent of these young people is just outstanding and I think people will leave happy. It’s just a fun quirky show, so we hope that people really enjoy it,” says Mooney.
The show is running June 8, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. shows on the 8 and 15.
