Owen Sound is replacing a fire truck in its fleet.
Fire chief Phil Eagleson informed council at Monday’s meeting the city was successful in purchasing a used 75-foot aerial fire truck at a public auction earlier this month.

Eagleson says in a report the truck will be refurbished and delivered with the required equipment and Canadian certifications.
The purchase price was $100,000 U.S. dollars, according to a staff report. That’s about $136,000 Canadian dollars at today’s exchange rate.
“And we see it saving about $2-million over the option of purchasing a brand new one,” Eagleson told councillors during Monday’s meeting.
The machine will replace the city’s existing reserve aerial truck, which was built in 2004 and can’t be refurbished because the company that assembled it is no longer in business.
It’s expected the sale of the old fire truck could generate around $40,000 for the city’s fleet reserve, Eagleson says in a report.
The Owen Sound Fire Department’s fleet currently includes two pumper trucks, two ladder trucks and a rescue boat.
“This is one of the smallest fire department fleets in the Grey-Bruce area,” Eagleson says in a report. “Owen Sound Fire does not have tanker trucks, rescue trucks or utility/support vehicles. We rely on the mutual aid program when additional apparatus resources are required.”
