The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority has issued a watershed statement and flood outlook.
The conservation authority covers an area from Saugeen Shores to Kincardine and east through Arran-Elderslie & Brockton to West Grey and part of Grey Highlands.
They say, “Significant flooding is not expected, watercourses could reach or exceed bank-full conditions, with minor flooding in low-lying areas. More extensive flooding is possible should the region receive rainfall amounts greater than what is currently forecast.”
They are advising people there could be high water levels and potentially unsafe conditions in local watercourses.
The conservation authority says in the past 24 hours, 20 to 35 mm of rain has been recorded throughout the watershed. An additional 5 to 10 mm is forecasted for today, plus another 10 to 15 mm overnight. Rain is expected to gradually taper off Saturday morning.
They note, “Elevated water levels, fast flowing water, and slippery conditions along banks are extremely dangerous.”
They’re advising people to stay away from watercourses, bridges, culverts, and dams.
