Renovations for a new Bruce County library location in Paisley are coming along.
Staff recently updated council on work to move the library from its current location on Queen Street in Paisley to the other side of the street on the upper floor of the community centre and arena.
The new location will have an accessible elevator and staff say the flooring has been replaced.
The space also now has new windows, the trim and doors are being painted, and upgrades are being made to heating, ventilation and electrical systems.
A report says the combined cost is about $571,000 paid for through provincial grants and municipal funds.
Staff say they are anticipating the arrival of library furnishings this month. They expect the project will reach substantial completion by the end of March or early April, and it is anticipated library will move to its new space in May.
Staff also presented council with options to consider for the old library location, which is owned by the town. It could knock it down and create a parkette, (but staff note, that would complicate a grant it was awarded to make the building accessible), they could declare it surplus and sell it, make it a community hub or rental space for local groups or organizations, or make it a commercial rental space.
