Hanover police say they have seized a sawed-off shotgun and arrested a man at gunpoint after an assault call.
Police say in an updated release, they responded at about 7:30 last Friday morning (March 1) to an assault and firearms call at a residence on 13th Avenue in Hanover.
Police say they determined a resident of the home was assaulted and the male suspect had fled before officers arrived.
A short time later, the male suspect was located by police hiding in the basement of another building.
Officers say they ordered the suspect out at gunpoint, and he surrendered without incident.
According to police, a search of the area located the suspect’s sawed-off shotgun they say was stashed prior to his arrest.
A 32-year-old Kitchener man faces the following charges.
1. Assault
2. Careless Storage of Ammunition
3. Breach of a Weapons Prohibition Order x 2
4. Careless Storage of a Firearm
5. Breach of Probation x 3
6. Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

The suspect was remanded into custody at his bail hearing later that day. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
