Huron County Council received an annual report for the Huron Clean Water Project.
Nathan Schoelier, who is the Stewardship and Lands Manager for the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority presented the report to council on Wednesday, saying that as the project was in its 20th year, it was getting close to completing its 4000th project.
In 2023, the HCWP approved 277 project applications, along with $376,592 in grant funding.
The main categories were for 143 cover crop projects, 76 tree planting projects, and 13 rural stormwater management projects.
Over the past 20 years, the Clean Water Project has given $4.45 million in grants, with a return of $16.3 million total project value.
The group also shared the success of erosion control structures, such as water and sediment control basins, which help to mitigate erosion, and help to keep sediment and nutrients where they belong.
