A local giant vegetable grower is being honoured in Belgium this weekend.
Port Elgin grower and Pumpkinfest Co-Founder Doug Court is being honoured by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth as the first giant field pumpkin grower of the year. The category is new for the 2023 year.
He’s in Kasterlee, Belgium for the International Growers Convention which runs from February 16th to 18th.
Court says to win the honour, he had to enter three different field pumpkins at three different weigh-offs. The combined weight was 437 pounds.
Court has reportedly been growing for 50 years and has been competing for decades. He has been honoured with numerous awards for his work.
