Carter George made 42 saves, and Colby Barlow had a pair of goals as the Owen Sound Attack topped the Oshawa Generals 2-1 in overtime in Ontario Hockey League action at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre Tuesday night.
Barlow scored on a breakaway 3:15 into overtime, lifting the Attack to the win after a stellar performance from George in net helped his team get there.
The Generals outshot Owen Sound 15-6 in the third period, and had two late power play opportunities to try to break the 1-1 deadlock. George turned aside everything that came his way.
It was also a record-setting night for Sam Sedley. He had an assist on Owen Sound’s first goal of the game for his 158th career point in the OHL. That moved him past Santino Centorame for the new Owen Sound franchise record for most points by a defenceman.
Luca D’Amato scored the lone goal for Oshawa (26-18-6-2), which dropped its fourth in a row.
D’Amato’s goal gave the Generals a 1-0 lead 6:26 into the first period. Barlow responded 35 seconds later. That was it until the Attack captain struck again in overtime to end it.
The Attack (25-21-4-2) leapfrogged Guelph (25-21-4-1) for fifth in the Western Conference with the win.
George made 42 saves in the win, while Jacob Oster stopped 22 taking the loss. The Generals outshot the Attack 43-24 while going 0 for 6 on the power play; Owen Sound finished 0 for 3.
Next up for the Attack is a trip to the Brantford and District Civic Centre for the first time on Friday, to take on the Bulldogs (27-16-6-2). That game starts a stretch of three in four days for Owen Sound. Saturday, they host the London Knights (38-11-0-3). And then on Monday — Family Day — the Attack visit the Mississauga Steelheads (26-20-5).
