Hanover police have charged a Listowel man after a collision.
Police say on Tuesday, January 16th at about noon, they responded to a fail to remain collision at the intersection of 10th Street and 18th Avenue.
Police say the investigation determined two vehicles were stopped for a red light at the intersection waiting to turn south on 18th Avenue when they were hit from behind by a truck.
According to police, one of the involved vehicles was listed as a total loss.
They say no injuries were reported to police.
The suspect vehicle, a white straight truck (which is a truck like a Uhaul or a truck with a fixed trailer), did not stop at the scene of the collision.
It was last observed fleeing northbound on 17 th Avenue at a high of speed, reportedly fishtailing as it rounded the corner.
Police say, through investigation that included assistance from registrants of CAMsafe, (a home and business voluntary camera listing database) the suspect and his straight truck were identified.
A 34-year-old male from Listowel was arrested Tuesday, January 23rd and faces a charge of failing to stop after an accident.
The suspect was later released from custody scheduled to appear in Walkerton court.
Police investigators are still looking to speak with the female driver of the black SUV who was clipped from behind by the truck.
They say she stopped briefly, checked her rear bumper and then left the area.
Hanover police add, “Thank-you to everyone who has registered security cameras on the Camsafe.ca website. This secure website is proving to be a valuable resource to our police investigators who can now quickly determine who owns cameras in the area of interest, make contact with the owner of the cameras and arrange to view the footage often in a very timely manner.”
