The Ontario Provincial Police are releasing their final numbers for this year’s RIDE campaign.
In the West Region, which involves 13 detachments across Southwestern Ontario, 13,197 vehicles passed through 2,246 RIDE checkpoints.
Police laid 353 impaired driving charges, which is up from 278 from last year’s campaign.
They also gave warnings to 55 drivers within the warning range (when a driver has a concentration of between 0.05 and 0.079), which is an increase from 35 who received warnings in 2022.
Closer to home, Grey Bruce OPP held 167 RIDE events, and handed out 28 impaired driving charges, while South Bruce OPP held 175 stops and charged 15 impaired drivers.
Last year, Grey Bruce OPP charged only 14 impaired drivers, which is half as many in 2023. South Bruce charged only 3 motorists with impaired driving last year.
