The Province’s Special Investigations Unit has found that no criminal offenses were committed in connection with the arrest of a Fergus man back in April.
The Director of the SIU Joseph Martino says that there are no grounds to believe that an OPP officer had committed an offense when the 43-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication.
During his arrest, the man was forced to the ground, and other officers had also intervened to take the man into custody. During that time, the man was punched in the face, handcuffed, and put into a cruiser.
The man had been taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured left knee.
The SIU Director found that there wasn’t enough evidence to prove that the amount of force used by police was excessive.
