The Province’s Special Investigations Unit has found that no criminal offenses were committed in connection with serious injuries suffered by a man back in August.
The Director of the SIU Joseph Martino says that there are no grounds to believe that a Barrie Police Service member was responsible for the injuries suffered by the 24-year-old during an arrest that stemmed from a traffic stop on August 16th.
The officer had attempted to pull the driver over on Mapleview Drive East for speeding, but the driver failed to follow instructions. This resulted in the officer using a conducted energy weapon on the man. The driver was then forced to the ground and handcuffed.
The man had been taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion and a broken toe. The SIU accepted that the injuries would have been from the altercation during his arrest, but no unlawful conduct was found.
