Owen Sound firefighters responded to a blaze on the east side of the city today.
They were called Just after 10:15 this morning to house at 6th Avenue and 7th Street A East.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says they received a report of heavy smoke coming from the house and the third floor on fire.
Upon arrival, a crew of 12 firefighters in two trucks found a working fire on the third floor which they extinguished quickly.
Eagleson says a mother and two adult children were at home at the time. He says no one was injured, though one occupant was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation and released.
The cause was determined to be electrical and attributed to a faulty extension cord.
“We would like to remind people that extension cords should be only used for temporary use and are not a permanent solution to wiring,” says Eagleson.
Damage is estimated at $50,000 and Eagleson says the overall structure of the building was unaffected by the fire, but the home suffered damage to its contents.
