The 8th annual Light the Way Radiothon on Bayshore Boradcasting’s 97.9 The Bruce has raised over $230,000.
The 12-hour event held Thursday in Port Elgin saw community members make donations to support the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation’s efforts to purchase new heart monitors for inpatients and to renovate the 1960s era nurses’ station at the hospital in Southampton.
As of 6 p.m. Thursday evening, $231,558 was donated by the community.
Over the course of the past eight years, the cumulative funds raised by the radiothon for the hospital foundation now amount to $1,189,000.
Those who would still like to donate can do so on the hospital foundation’s website. Those who choose to become a ‘GEM’ (Give Every Month) during December will have their donations matched by Bruce Power through 2024.
