It wasn’t quite a baker’s dozen, but enough to tie the Owen Sound franchise record for most goals in a game.
Jackson Stewart scored a hat trick and finished with five points, Deni Goure had six points and Declan Waddick scored his first two goals of the season, as the Attack whacked the Windsor Spitfires 12-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night at the WFCU Centre.
The 12-goal outburst for Owen Sound tied the franchise record for most in a game. There have been five previous times in Platers/Attack history that number had been hit.
Owen Sound came close a couple of times to setting a new standard in Windsor Thursday night. Brayden Rogers hit the post late in the third period. Jackson Stewart had a crossbar. Ethan Burroughs was open for a clean look in front that was denied by Ian Michelone.
The record-setting goal didn’t come. But that didn’t take anything away from the slump-busting win for the Attack (8-9-2), which ended a four-game losing streak. Windsor (4-14-1) lost its sixth in a row.
“That was more like it,” says Owen Sound interim head coach Darren Rumble. “We’ve had a little bit of bad luck lately, and made up for it in droves tonight. It was nice to see them get rewarded. They’ve been working hard and we’ve been getting chances. Some of the games lately would have been a little different if we’d been able to score. Really nice to see a lot of the guys break through tonight.”
Servac Petrovsky, Jake Crawford, Madden Steen, Ben Cormier and Martin Matejicek also scored for the Attack, which led 8-3 after the first period. Owen Sound added three more in the second, and one in the third.
Liam Greentree, Noah Morneau and Adrian Manzo had the goals for Windsor.
Corbin Votary made 33 saves in the win, while Ian Michelone stopped nine taking the loss. Michelone was lifted 8:32 into the first period after allowing four goals. He re-entered the game in the third. Joey Constanzo allowed seven goals on 22 shots during his stint in the middle of the game.
The shots finished 36-36. The Attack finished 2 for 3 on the power play; the Spitfires were 0 for 4.
The Attack extended their points-streak on the road to four-games with the win.
They have four more road games coming up before their next one at the Bayshore. Friday, the Attack visit the Sarnia Sting (9-11). Sarnia has dropped three straight.

TIES THE RECORD
The 12 goals for the Attack in Windsor Thursday tied the franchise record for most in a game. According to longtime Attack voice Fred Wallace, there had been five previous 12 goal outbursts in Platers/Attack history. The most recent was during the 2017-18 season, a 12-6 win over the Oshawa Generals on Oct. 14, 2017. The other in the Attack era was a 12-0 win over the Peterborough Petes on Feb. 11, 2012. In the Platers era, Owen Sound had a 12-3 win over Kitchener on Jan. 26, 1994, a 12-3 win over Belleville on Oct. 2, 1993 and a 12-3 win over the Hamilton Dukes on Dec. 22, 1990.
SLUMPS BUSTED
Not surprisingly, Thursday was a slump-busting game for many members of the Attack. Waddick’s two goals were his first with Owen Sound since coming over from the Niagara Ice Dogs in an offseason trade. The goals for Waddick also ended a 16-game pointless streak … Matejicek’s goal was his first in the OHL. He had also been without a point since the Attack season opener on Sept. 29 … Crawford’s goal was his first since Oct. 6.
WELCOME BACK, JACKS
Jackson Stewart made his return to the Attack lineup Thursday after serving a three-game suspension. He had quite an impact. Stewart scored a hat trick in the first period, his first hat trick in the OHL. He added a pair of assists to finish with five points.
BARLOW TO MISS SOME TIME
Colby Barlow was out of the Attack lineup for a third straight game. He is dealing with an upper-body injury. Rumble provided an update to Barlow’s status, saying he may miss “a week, two weeks, or maybe longer.” A bit vague, but it sounds like the Attack captain’s injury situation is more of a week-to-week scenario and it will take some time before he’s ready to return.
