Grey County council has approved a pilot program that will see Bluewater District School Board Students learn about agriculture at Grey Roots Museum and Archives.
The plan now is to have the specialist high skills major program in agriculture begin there in January. If the pilot is successful, it could turn into a long-term partnership.
The program will focus on a number of ag subjects including crop science, horticulture, animal science and livestock production.
Various Grey Roots buildings including those in Moreston Village are part of the program, with a plan to use part of the barn and chicken coop for learning about raising animals and livestock, using the schoolhouse as a classroom, using the orange hall for seed propagation and there are plans to build a three-season hoop greenhouse.
The costs of the program are carried by the Bluewater Distinct School Board. Grey County is providing the venue.
Blue Mountains Mayor and County Councillor Andrea Matrosovs noted during discussion, “I am a former high school teacher, so I couldn’t speak more highly about this program and the way in which it’s expanding the educational opportunities.”
