Owen Sound is launching a pilot program to offer discounted public transit passes to Ontario Disability Support Program and Ontario Works recipients.
The city says the new $55 “affordability rate monthly bus passes” will be available starting Nov. 7.
They can be picked up at city hall, the Owen Sound transit terminal or the library.
City staff say riders must provide a current ODSP or OW statement, or a verification letter to be eligible for an affordability rate transit pass.
“This pilot project will allow the city to assess the impacts of a fare reduction while supporting the transportation of individuals of all abilities and socio-economic status in Owen Sound,” says Mayor Ian Boddy in a prepared statement. “We thank the REACH Centre for attending the September operations committee and requesting this fare reduction to support greater independence and community inclusion.”
The affordability rate transit pilot will continue until the city reviews its transit fares again next year.
Owen Sound’s public transit system operates Monday to Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
