Bell service has been restored in Port Elgin, after another outage.
Bell Support says on the social media site “X,”·the outage was caused by a fibre cut by third parties in separate incidents in a short time span impacting the network.
The outages started midday on Tuesday, October 17th.
Bell Support posted it was working to restore service as quickly as possible. adding, “We realize that these interruptions are frustrating for our customers, and our priority is to restore service as quickly as possible. We continue to work with third parties who are digging near Bell network infrastructure to help avoid such issues from occurring.”
In September, Saugeen Shores council sent a letter about a number of outages that occurred over the summer, to Bell’s CEO, the CRTC, a few ministers and Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb.
In it, Mayor Luke Charbonneau said the cellular, landline and internet outages disrupted the municipal water system, local businesses, and the ability for residents to contact emergency services.
He also noted in an interview with Bayshore news at the time, it the water system loses Bell service, the Town has to pay to have staff physically monitor it.
Charbonneau called for Bell to find ways to create redundancies and a more resilient network to ensure these outages don’t happen again, and called for compensation for the Town and its local businesses.
Today, Town Communications Specialist Brent Lanthier says the Town has been in contact with senior Bell officials about this most recent outage, and they continue to advocate for solutions to prevent these kinds of service disruptions in the future.”
