Goderich Council heard a report about recommendations for the town to improve work happening on the trail between Highway 21 and the Menesetung Bridge.
Wayne Caldwell, who is a Rural Planning and Development professor at the University of Guelph says the first recommendation in the report is to build a pedestrian bridge at Harbour Road.
There’s no particular timeframe for the recommendation, Caldwell says, because it would be a project that could be pursued as the opportunity presents itself.
“And I know that council will be familiar with opportunities that come along with senior levels of government which periodically will find municipalities.”
The option was listed fairly highly on the list of recommendations, because Caldwell and his team felt it would be an important project and because of the role the Town of Goderich would play in terms of funding such a project.
Caldwell also recommended two other options, namely plaques on the Menesetung Bridge to show the building of the trestle.
The third option was to introduce trail signage, such as a sign that reads “Welcome to Goderich” at the North Street entrace of the trail.
