A tourism strategy and action plan is set to be unveiled in South Bruce Peninsula.
There’s a scheduled tourism stakeholder meeting in Sauble Beach Thursday evening, when consultants McQueen Galloway Associates are expected to present their plan.
The Municipal Accommodation Tax Association is also expected to provide updates about what it’s been working on.
The Municipal Accommodation Tax Association (MATA) is made up of accommodation business owners, a realtor, a financial advisor and other local business owners. It gets half of the municipal accommodation tax revenue and must use it for tourism related promotion and products.
Since 2022, the Town has collected a four per cent tax from accommodation businesses. 50 per cent goes to a designated tourism organization and the other half to the Town.
They’ve been looking at potential uses for municipal accommodation tax revenue.
The MAT Association is focusing on five areas: staff recruitment and housing, extending the tourism season, tourism infrastructure (washrooms, parking), ‘elevating’ the visitor experience, and improved coordination and communication.
The meeting is set to go Thursday September 21st at Carson’s Campground from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The deadline to RSVP was Sept 19th.
