Owen Sound has come to an agreement with Meaford to allow its residents access the city’s leaf and yard waste compost site.
Council directed staff to bring back a by-law to authorize the agreement during a meeting on Sept. 11, after Meaford had previously submitted the request at the end of August.
Owen Sound started enforcing stricter rules at the 28th Avenue East facility earlier this year, cutting off access for people from outside the city.
Georgian Bluffs already struck a deal to allow township residents to resume using the city’s site.
The agreement for the remainder of the year involves Meaford paying a fee of $13,000 to access the facility seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Attendees of the site are asked to bring proof of residence like a driver’s licence when dropping off their waste.
Any decisions for site operation next year will be decided through the 2024 budget process.
Coun. Brock Hamley says: “it is great to see our partners coming on board for a service that we all use in the region.”
