Owen Sound Police are trying to locate the driver of a sport utility vehicle that fled from a R.I.D.E. stop early this morning.
City Police say they were conducting a checkstop shortly after midnight in the 800 block of 10th Street West, when a vehicle approached and the male driver had a conversation with the officer.
According to police, when the officer asked the man to pull over for further investigation — he took off.
“The male accelerated causing the vehicle to fishtail and then sped eastbound through a red light at 8th Avenue East,” Owen Sound Police say in a statement.
Police officers did not chase after the vehicle due to public safety concerns.
The vehicle was a mid 2000s Jeep Liberty, with a black body and silver passenger and driver’s side doors. Police say the Jeep also has a significant dent in the left rear bumper.
