The FireFit Contest is set to go this weekend in Saugeen Shores.
It’s a competition based on firefighting tasks that are normally performed in emergency situations. The contest visits every province in the country.
In full gear, firefighters from all over will compete in various events.
For example, the relay event involves them running up and down a huge high-rise staircase, then pulling a 45 lb object up to the top of the stairs, running back down the stairs, using a force machine, running full speed around hydrants, dragging a hose, and rescuing a 175 lb mannequin victim.
The event is being staged at the north Harbour Parking lot at Port Elgin main beach. Opening ceremonies are at 10:45 on Saturday morning.
