The Mariposa Belle Yacht Race takes place in Orillia today.
Hosted by the Champlain Sailing Club, the event is not really a race, but more of a family-oriented fun way to enjoy the water.
This is the 48th year for the event, which was inspired by a story in Stephen Leacock’s book “Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town.”
The winner is determined by a secret handicapping system, known only to a few select officials.
Anyone with a sailboat can take part for $5 per person, which includes a barbecue meal.
Those who want to take part should show up at the sailing club on Cedar Island Road at 12:30 p.m. for a skippers’ meeting.
