On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 12:25 p.m., a member of the Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit was enforcing the posted speed limit on Essa Rd., near Beacon Rd., when a motor vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed.
The motor vehicle in question was traveling at 101km/h in a 50 km/h zone and was safely stopped a short distance away. The driver, a 29-year-old male from Barrie, was arrested for Stunt Driving and as he was being placed into rear seat of the police cruiser, he spat in the face of the investigating officer.
The accused was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt, Speeding – 101km/h in a 50km/h zone and Assault a Peace Officer. He was released from custody a short time later and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on August 30, 2023.
In accordance with the stunt driving related legislation, the motor vehicle that the accused was operating has been impounded for 14-days and his driver’s licence has been suspended for 30-days.
