Some provincial funding is helping to fund wetland protection projects in Huron, Lambton, and Middlesex counties.
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority says $143,900 in funding from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks will fund 21 wetlands projects in the watershed.
ABCA Wetlands Specialist says, “these wetland improvements add needed habitat. They also hold back water during storm events, help to better protect water quality, and help to keep water on the land during times of low water.”
Wetlands in Ontario are described as the ‘kidneys of the landscape.’ They absorb, store and filter water before it reaches nearby waterways.
Environment Minister David Piccini says 330 wetlands projects have been supported by the province since 2020.
