South Bruce OPP is advising residents of tips to follow this summer as schools let students out.
OPP say when school is out for the summer, residents can expect an increase in the amount of pedestrian traffic as scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, and bicycles take to the streets and sidewalks.
Police also say as parents and care givers go to work during the summer months, they also need to think about acceptable internet usage and water safety.
To have an safe an enjoyable summer, police recommend the following:
-Slow down and drive with care, especially near parks and recreation centres
-Use crosswalks or intersections to cross streets safely. Never step out into traffic between parked cars
-Bicycle helmets are required by law and reduce the risk of head injury by as much as 85 per cent when worn properly
-Ensure that swimmers are always properly supervised
-Never leave pets or children in a hot car
-Follow your children online.
“Parents and care givers are asked to review safety rules with their youth. Summer time may be a break from learning, but it can’t be a break from safety,” says the OPP.
