Meaford is awarding a $567,000 tender for the rehabilitation of a culvert on Sykes Street North.
Council approved the tender to Nuroad Construction Limited during its meeting on June 26 after receiving a report from Director of Financial Services and Treasurer Valerie Manning.
The report says the scope of the project on Sykes Street North, about 20 meters northwest of Cook Street, will consist of concrete patch repairs, reconstruction of a gabion retaining wall, removal and replacement of existing barriers, installing scour protection, boulevard paving, and site restoration as a result of deteriorated concrete.
The structure over Pete’s Creek consists of a single concrete box culvert, and sees an average daily traffic count of 5,725.
Three bids were received for the project, with Nuroad being the cheapest.
The project will be partly funded by a Connecting Links Grant from the Ministry of Transportation, with an additional $104,000 coming from the Bridges and Culverts Reserve Fund.
The construction will be about 12 weeks and Manning says the intent is to keep at least one lane open throughout the project.
