Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says help is finally arriving for employers via the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS).
Almost 10,000 companies have applied for the subsidy since it’s new online application portal opened this morning.
Trudeau says the CEWS provides eligible companies with 75% of an eligible employee’s weekly earnings, to a maximum of $847 per employee per week, for up to 12 weeks.
“And that gives people certainty that they’ll have a job now and in the months to come to support themselves and their family,” said Trudeau. “And it means employers will not just have the help to stay afloat through the tough time, but they’ll be ready to gear back up when things get better.”
Employers can apply for the subsidy through My Business Account or the CRA’s online application portal on the web.
Trudeau says the subsidy’s first payments could arrive as soon as May 7th.
