Northern Bruce Peninsula is supporting The Meeting Place in Tobermory in its application to receive funding for repairs and needed upgrades.
During a meeting on June 12, council received a report from Parks and Facilities Manager Mark Coleman. It recommended supporting the application to the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for funds to support repairs to the roof and HVAC equipment to the facility at 20 Centennial Drive.
The report says the OTF has a capital grant open and is closing June 14. Non-profit organizations can apply for up to 100 per cent funding ranging from $10,000 to $150,000 for a term of 12 months to address a community need by improving infrastructure.
Municipal staff have been working on a Building Condition Assessment Report and Designated Substance Survey to assess the maintenance needs of The Meeting Place facility over the next five to 10 years. Once the final report is completed, staff will be sharing with council at a future meeting the long-term capital needs.
Through observations and assessment from a recent inspection, staff confirm the need to resurface the entire roof of the facility, as well as a replacing of the roof top HVAC unit.
It is estimated $86,000 is needed from the OTF for the repairs.
