Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest after investigating a threat involving a firearm.
On Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. officers were dispatched to a residence within the Town of Wasaga Beach of a report involving a person being threatened with a firearm.
Numerous officers responded to the call due to the serious nature of the incident.
While responding, officers were updated that the suspect had fled the scene on foot. After obtaining a detailed description, patrol officers contained the area and as a result of quick thinking and teamwork, the suspect was located and arrested without incident shortly thereafter. After a search of the suspect was completed, no firearm was located.
Central Region members from the Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team attended the scene to assist where a thorough ground search was completed of the area. Clear determination from responding members prevailed as a firearm was located in the vicinity, matching the description of the one used in the disturbance.
As a result, a 29-years-old Collingwood resident, has been criminally charged with the following:
· Firearm – Use while committing offence
· Uttering threats – Cause death or bodily harm
· Fail to comply with release order – Other than to attend court
· Fail to comply with Undertaking
· Fail to comply with Probation order
· Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
The accused was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody awaiting a future court date.
