Central Huron is showing off the accessibility of downtown Clinton.
Municipal officials will be on hand Tuesday night to celebrate the steps taken to make the town’s downtown more accessible, as part of National AccessAbility Week.
While Clinton’s downtown is historic, officials say additions have been made to all downtown businesses to allow for use by those with accessibility issues.
Among the additions to Clinton’s downtown are:
- 16 additional stores got auto door openers
- Shops were provided with doorbells and a wheelchair sticker indicating that you can simply push a button if you need help
- Each store with a step had a grab bar installed
- Every downtown store was provided with a chair to place on the sidewalk
- Stores with steps had yellow visibility strips painted on them for the visually impaired
- Each of those stores also received a StopGap Foundation ramp
The accessibility celebration runs Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Clinton’s Millennium Park.
