Owen Sound Police say during March and April, several break and enters and thefts occurred in and around the city, with most at businesses.
Police say during the early morning hours on April 24, and break and enter and theft occurred at a restaurant on Highway 6 and 10 south of Owen Sound.
Later that morning, police say they responded to a report of suspicious activity at a residence on the upper east side of the city, where uniformed members located a safe stolen from the restaurant and started an investigation. Just hours later a 35-year-old man was taken into custody and was held for a show cause hearing in relation to being in possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
An investigator obtained a warrant for the residence, which was executed the following morning by detectives, the Community Oriented Response and Enforcement Unit, and the Forensic identification Unit.
Police say numerous items, including a significant sum of Canadian currency was recovered in relation to the early morning break and enter, as well as property that had been reported stolen from other break and enters and thefts from Owen Sound and the surrounding area.
Police say then on April 27, a 31-year-old woman was arrested in relation to several charges including five counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and was held for a hearing on April 28.
Police say an arrest warrant was also obtained on April 28 in relation to these incidents.
Detective Constable Nick Houston says, “it’s very satisfying to be able to get people’s property back and return it, especially when it means so much to them.”
Police thank those for their assistance with this investigation.
