Grey Bruce OPP say two people have been arrested following an alleged armed robbery in Saugeen First Nation.
Provincial Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at a business on Highway 21 in Saugeen First Nation around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday night.
OPP did not disclose the business they were called to.
Police say officers arrived on scene and one suspect was taken into custody. A second suspect was arrested later after the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and Tactics and Rescue responded to the area.
“Both accused persons remain in custody and are being held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton,” Grey Bruce OPP say in a release.
There continues to be an increased police presence in the area of Highway 21 and Cameron Drive. Members from the Grey Bruce OPP, OPP Forensic Identification Unit, West Region ERT, and the Grey Bruce Crime Unit, remain on scene and are continuing to investigate.
“Members of the public can expect an increased police presence for the next several hours,” Provincial Police say.
The OPP issued an advisory just prior to 11 p.m. Wednesday night on social media asking people to avoid the area of Highway 21 and Cameron Drive. A section of Highway 21 near the incident area was closed, but it has since re-opened.
