Meaford’s Accessibility Advisory Committee is going to be hearing options to expand the local transit service this week.
The committee will be receiving a report on April 5 from Deputy Clerk and Manager of Legislative Services Margaret Wilton-Siegel recommending the committee receive the options to expand Meaford Moves+ for information purposes.
The report says the delivery of the Meaford Moves+ specialized transit service provides low-cost door-to-door transportation to people with disabilities who live in the municipality.
The service is contracted to a third-party operator and the agreement with the current operator expires this October.
In preparation of looking to sign a new contract, staff are considering opportunities to increase the level of service.
Such expansions include increasing the hours of service from 32 hours to 40, including people with low incomes for all types of bookings, and if grant funding can be obtained, purchase a second vehicle to address the demand for service.
The committee will be reviewing this report at its meeting on April 5 at 2 p.m.
